The Black Keys have become the number one band to watch these days. After winning the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album of the year, they have quickly become an unstoppable force. After ten long years, the thought on everyone’s mind is “It’s about time”. Here’s a peak inside half of this phenomenal duo, as I take a minute to chat with drummer Patrick Carney!

What was the first record you heard where you thought to yourself “Wow, I can’t believe music can sound this amazing”?:
Jimi Hendrix “Purple Haze”
Public Enemy or NWA?:
De La Soul
What do you like to do on tour to pass the time?
Sleep
How do you and Dan approach songwriting? Do you lay down the drums first or come up with a bass line or melody first? Do you do this together?:
It depends really but usually its a guitar, bass or drum beat that gets things going… we basically just jam together until something works.
Do you and ?uestlove ever kick it?:
I have met him briefly a few times. He seems really nice. But the answer would be no.
What was your first drum kit?:
A really old 60′s pearl. red sparkle. It was 150 bones.
When you lived in New York how did you get around with your drums?
I didn’t play drums at all in NYC. I prefer to not be technically good at drums.
What three foods would you take to a desert island?:
Water, Twizzlers, Ramen.
What was the VERY first thought in your brain when you heard you won the Grammy for best alternative album?:
Wowza
What was the stupidest question you’ve been asked during an interview before?:
I don’t know really. No question is a bad question unless its really personal.
