Campusounds recieved a last-minute alert about an amazing show happening tomorrow in New York and the artists involved are so good we scrambled to get this info out to all of you east coast folk. Pretty much every artist in this lineup is either a Berklee student or alumni making the popular Boston nickname “the hub” an accurate description of surely one of the most exciting new music scenes in the country. Pianist Nikos Syropoulos (USC) releases his debut album Rozalia today, and what is most exciting about the music on first listen is how much it does not sound, well…like a debut!  With a collage of rich string arrangements, strong instrumental performance, and an overall unique sound, this highly original album could arguably become one of the best independent jazz albums of the year.

Fascination has a lot to do with the bands that I find and choose to write about. It was fascination that led me to want to learn more about a band called Young Cornelius. After seeing them perform at The Knitting Factory on one steamy night in the late summer/early Fall, I knew that they embraced exactly what it is that we love so much about our Campusounds musicians.
