My name is Kris Bowers and I am the founder of campusounds.com. As a native of Los Angeles, California, I began studying piano privately at the age of nine. Although my early studies focused on the classical repertoire, like most kids that age, I was more concerned about playing outside than practicing the piano. Soon, my parents enrolled me in jazz lessons to see if that would spark my interests, and I instantly fell in love with the feeling and sense of freedom I got from the music.

Currently, I am a Masters of Music student at The Juilliard School in the Jazz Performance department. Since beginning my studies there as an undergrad in 2006, I have had the pleasure of studying privately with Eric Reed, Frank Kimbrough, Kenny Barron, and Fred Hersch. In addition, I have been introduced to a number of greats in the music industry, all of whom I hope to interview for this site.

Aside from playing, I am constantly on a search for new music to listen to. There are far too many brilliant composers and musicians in all genres for me to remain closed-minded. I refuse to filter the artists that inspire me whether it is jazz, classical, rap, hip-hop, rock, electronic, film, or whatever else I find myself listening to these days.
